Developmental & Competitive Teams Practice/Games
SWYFC offers a Competitive team and a Developmental team option in each grade. Offering an option to suit all abilities and desired commitment levels.
Development Team: Offers an opportunity for athletes new to the program, less experienced and/or confident, or not yet ready for competitive. Ensures significant playing time for in-game repetitions, which are critical to growth and experience.
Competitive Team: Opportunity for athletes who are more confident/advanced to compete at a high level.
Both teams ensure that where possible, they will compete against similar skillsets.
Practice as ONE UNIT!
Work together as one unit in practice, activities, etc. Spending time at practice working as ONE UNIT, rotating through stations getting all the kids coaching and training from all the coaches. Which also doubles as training for coaches, more experienced ones can lead while newer ones watch, assist and learn.
Teams can break out for individual work when needed. Teams can also scrimmage or work on play implementation/personnel with both Comp & Dev teams.
Will also allow for scrimmaging other SWYFC teams depending on ability (Comp teams up a grade, Dev teams down a grade, etc, where it makes sense and coaches approve).
Drills will be suited to improve the entire unit, not just one team.
Film sessions can be done independently to focus on specific game day preparations.
All practices are in Smithville.
Registration is open to boys and girls.
Games:
SWYFC will work to ensure that development teams & competitive teams play teams that are at a similar level/division in KCFC. Due to the fact that the teams participating in our leagues vary each year, we cannot guarantee this will always be accurate. We do our best to create an even match up to allow for a safe and competitive experience for our players. Official game schedule will not be released from KCFC until the middle of August.
